Norris Leads Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has outperformed his teammate at each of the past five race weekends.
Lando Norris edged out team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the points lead from Piastri by just one point after taking the win in Mexico City two weeks ago, topped the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver throughout the hour before the sprint shootout set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in the championship fight, lying 36 points Norris, finished in P17 as his team ran a unique setup.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to go off, though minor, when he lost control at corner four during the early running.
The Japanese lost control over the exit kerbs before sliding over the escape zone, and was blessed to escape with just a minor contact of the barrier.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the conclusion of the practice, turning around through the fast downhill Mergulho corner leading to the last turn on to the main straight.
Hamilton ended the session in 19th place, just behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were far ahead of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's car P3, 0.619secs off the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
