The artist has given the entirety of his £25,000 award winnings to the MVT, which works to save the UK's independent music venues.

The star was given the cheque on mid-October as his third album the album was named the outstanding release of the previous year.

He has decided to donate the funds to the Music Venues Trust, in appreciation of the essential function grassroots venues played in his beginning days.

"I wouldn't be doing what I am doing today if it wasn't for all the gigs I did around the region, and further afield, when I was starting out," said Sam Fender. "These locations are renowned, but they are in difficulty."

Since the start of 2023, over 150 of these locations have ceased operations – about 16 percent of the entire UK sector.

In the last year, top acts such as the band Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Sheeran have all supported the trust in its attempts to keep the scene afloat, by applying a modest fee to their ticket prices, which benefits local stages.

Sam Fender also participated, generating in excess of £100,000 on his recent tour to help numerous grassroots venues across the UK.

The donation helped spaces that were dealing with possible closure due to issues stemming from water damage, fire incidents and family tragedies, as well as permit problems, legal disputes and noise complaints.

Some locations obtained financial assistance in modernizing amenities and sound and lighting systems that helped musicians and fans.

"The notion that funds from performances in big venues helps the smaller venues, where it kicks off for performers like me, is just sensible," Fender has commented.

Fender is not the first artist to give his award funds to charitable organizations.

When Pulp earned the trophy in the year 1996 for their release their work, frontman Cocker declared that the act would donate their prize money to the non-profit War Child.

In 2002, musician the artist shared her bounty between a few charities, including the children's charity and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"Additionally, I donated a £1,000 to Highgate Newtown, to their gymnastics class, because I trained in gymnastics when I was a child and they lacked updated gear," Ms Dynamite told a publication.

Two years ago, Ezra Collective donated their funds to the youth organization that nurtured their act, as well as other grassroots music organisations.

And the 1994 recipients they gave their prize to a MS organization after a friend was diagnosed the condition.

"Receiving the award was sufficient," remarked vocalist Heather Small. "The cash was the bonus but we didn't require the cherry, because we had the cake. So our victory impacted somebody else's life."

Last week, the trust revealed it had protected a couple of local spots in that region, by transferring them to public stewardship.

The Joiners in that area and the second in the city were bought under the Own Our Venues initiative, which is backed by a national body and enthusiasts who purchase "shares" in the venues.
