The Reds Vows Not to Alter Attacking Style In the Face of Recent Slump, Says Slot
Arne Slot has stated that the Anfield decision-makers share his views regarding the poor performance streak and he will not abandon their offensive approach in search of a turnaround. The manager conceded that six defeats in seven games was below standard ahead of Saturday's match against Aston Villa.
Increasing Scrutiny During Challenging Phase
The manager acknowledged the pressure was on before his altered lineup were eliminated from the Carabao Cup against their Premier League rivals. However, he emphasized that this need to reverse the decline is not coming from the Anfield hierarchy or management structure following a summer transfer outlay of nearly £450 million.
"They say similar things," commented the Liverpool boss, whose squad will encounter Los Blancos in the Champions League and play against Manchester City in the English top flight.
Player Depth Continues Undoubted
The coach is convinced his team "have an unbelievable squad if they are completely available and fully prepared for the fixture list". He noted that the transfer window acquisitions in footballers like the attacking midfielder and Alexander Isak, who is probably unavailable again against Villa through fitness issues, had left the club "in such a good place for the immediate prospects and the distant prospects".
Integration Challenges
When asked why his team were struggling to integrate, he replied: "That question isn't constructive. 'What's causing this?' I offer insights and people say I'm making justifications. I can list five or six reasons why we are underperforming or experiencing losses as we do but, as I consistently state, there are inadequate reasons to have a results sequence as we had now."
- Even if I could come up with numerous reasons
- As Liverpool manager you must avoid losses
- Unfortunately six losses from seven matches
Defensive Statistics
Only Burnley (twenty-one) have allowed more significant openings from open play this season than Liverpool (19). The first-place team, the Gunners, have conceded only two. Yet Slot denies the team has been overly exposed and asserts there is no reason to compromise forward-thinking approach for a more pragmatic style after 10 games without a goalless performance.
"I don't see us giving up numerous openings so I find no basis to change our playing style totally but we need to do better in preventing goals," he stated.
Specific Instances
"Versus the Red Devils, how many openings did we give up? When playing Frankfurt when we were leading 3-1, we hardly conceded a shot on target. In all the games we have competed in we haven't given up a many opportunities. Absolutely not. We do give away a bit more than last season but that is related to us being 1-0 down so you become more adventurous. But typically I don't feel that our problem is that we allow too many opportunities. Our challenge is we are unable to finish the openings we produce."
